TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Teaching Style

  • Communicative, and focused on the three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, presentational)

  • Content-based

  • Focused on social justice

Language Varieties

  • Students should be taught both Standard Arabic and a dialect

Learners

  • Learners' agency and independence should be cultivated

  • The teacher should be willing to learn from the students when appropriate

Assessment

  • Assessment results say as much about the teacher as they do about the students

  • Formative assessment is necessary to figure out how to serve students throughout the class

Professional Responsibility

  • Teachers must continually refine their craft through reflection, research, and participation in professional development activities
